I’ve walked through brokenness and I’m here to walk with you toward freedom.

Why This Space Exists – What I Wish Someone Told Me When I Felt Alone

Aug 27, 2025

A Refuge for the Hurting

If you’ve ever stood in the middle of your life and wondered how everything fell apart despite your best efforts, you’re not alone. I know the ache of watching dreams collapse, of praying earnestly and hearing only silence, of dragging myself out of bed to face another day that feels like a burden. For years I tried to fix myself with willpower and quick spiritual answers, only to end up more exhausted and discouraged. What I longed for was someone to tell me that healing and freedom were possible, that my broken story could be redeemed and that I didn’t have to pretend anymore.

That longing is why I created WalkerJames.Life. This space is for people who feel unwanted, unworthy or beyond repair. My goal is to walk with you into the hard places of your story, listen without judgment, pray with you and invite God to do what only He can do. In this post I share my journey from brokenness to freedom, explain the heart behind my work as a Freedom coach and answer common questions about coaching. I’ll also offer practical insights and encouragement so you can start your own healing journey.

My Journey: From Unworthy to Free

Facing My Pain

I didn’t set out to be a coach. I started out as someone buried under rejection, grief, addiction and silence. My life looked successful on the outside—married, with kids—but inside I felt empty. I shouted at God in the dark, angry that He seemed absent when I needed Him most. Two sons with special needs, closed doors and mounting pressure left me overwhelmed. I stuffed my feelings down, believing that strength meant keeping it together.

Over time that unresolved pain seeped into every area of my life—my marriage, parenting, friendships, faith and work. I wore masks to hide my shame, but nothing changed until I hit a wall. I couldn’t ignore the hurt any longer. A trusted friend, who later became my mentor, invited me to sit with my story instead of running from it. He listened more than he spoke, prayed with me and gently challenged my beliefs. He taught me to bring my anger and questions to Jesus rather than hide them. For the first time I felt seen and understood.

Discovering Truth and Healing

Through that process I realised my worth wasn’t tied to performance or other people’s approval; it was rooted in God’s love for me. I learned to name the lies I’d believed—“I’m too broken,” “It’s my fault,” “I have to fix it myself”—and replace them with truth. I experienced forgiveness not just as an abstract concept but as a balm on old wounds. Healing wasn’t quick or tidy; it was a journey of small steps, honest conversations and lots of grace. But gradually I felt lighter and more hopeful.

As I gained freedom, I discovered a desire to help others find it too. I studied coaching, pastoral care and trauma-informed ministry. I blended my personal story with professional training and became a Freedom coach. My mission is to guide people who feel as I once did—exhausted, ashamed and out of options—into the healing and freedom God offers. I don’t pretend to fix anyone; my role is to listen, ask good questions, share truth and walk with you toward wholeness.

The Heart of Freedom Coaching

What Is Freedom Coaching?

At its simplest, coaching is a relationship where a trained coach helps you clarify your goals and create strategies to achieve them. Freedom coaching goes a step further by grounding that process in a biblical worldview and inviting God’s wisdom into the conversation. It doesn’t mean you need to be a Bible scholar or that we spend sessions preaching. Rather, we recognise that lasting transformation involves your spirit, soul and body.

People often ask whether coaching is right for them. From my experience, it’s for anyone who feels stuck, overwhelmed, uncertain or hungry for change. You might be wrestling with career decisions, relationship strain, spiritual dryness or ongoing stress. You may long for deeper purpose or clarity. Coaching offers a safe space to explore these questions, uncover your passions and develop a practical plan.

How Coaching Differs from Counseling

Another frequent question is how coaching differs from therapy. Coaching is forward-focused. We acknowledge past wounds but concentrate on where you want to go and how to get there. We don’t diagnose or treat mental health disorders—that’s the realm of licensed therapists. Many clients work with both a therapist and a coach, addressing different needs at the same time. Coaching complements therapy by providing accountability, encouragement and strategy.

Why Choose a Freedom Coach?

A freedom life coach brings additional layers to the table:

  1. Biblical perspective: We see you through the lens of God’s design, which means your identity isn’t defined by what you do or what others say but by God’s love and purpose.
  2. Prayerful support: We invite the Holy Spirit into the process. Sometimes a simple prayer in the middle of a session brings clarity that human wisdom cannot.
  3. Redemptive approach: Forgiveness, grace and truth are central themes. We deal with guilt and shame not by burying them but by bringing them to the cross.
  4. Holistic view: We consider your relationships, career, health and spirituality together rather than compartmentalising. Faith isn’t just a Sunday activity; it undergirds everyday life.

Pain Points and Coaching Benefits

Feeling Stuck and Directionless

Many clients come to me saying, “I feel stuck” or “I don’t know my purpose.” Together we explore your passions, values and talents to find clarity. Setting meaningful goals brings direction and motivation.

Overwhelm and Burnout

Stress is a huge barrier to freedom. Whether you’re juggling work and family or dealing with constant pressure, a stress management coach helps you implement practical rhythms of rest, boundaries and self‑care while inviting God’s peace into your routine. Spiritual practices like prayer and meditation combined with time management strategies bring balance.

Low Confidence and Negative Self‑Talk

Perhaps you struggle with insecurity or fear of failure. Through coaching you learn to identify lies (“I’m worthless”) and replace them with truth (“I’m loved and capable”). A confidence coach equips you with tools to build self‑esteem through small wins, positive affirmation and aligning your identity with God’s view of you.

Relationship Struggles

Broken trust, people‑pleasing and conflict can make relationships painful. Coaching helps you set healthy boundaries, communicate effectively and pursue forgiveness when needed. As you heal, you often see improvements in marriage, parenting and friendships.

Guilt, Shame and Past Wounds

Many carry unspoken pain from past mistakes or traumas. Coaching offers space to talk about those experiences, grieve and begin to forgive yourself and others. Inviting Jesus into these memories can transform how you see them and free you from shame.

Decision Paralysis

Big decisions changing jobs, moving, ending or starting a relationship can feel paralyzing. Through thoughtful questions and values‑based assessment, we clarify your options and weigh pros and cons. You learn to make choices aligned with your purpose rather than fear.

Desire for Deeper Faith

Some clients simply want to know God better. Freedom coaching helps you develop spiritual disciplines such as Bible reading, prayer, worship and journaling. We explore what it means to follow Jesus in everyday life.

How the Coaching Process Works

While every coaching journey is unique, most follow these stages:

1. Building Trust

We start by getting to know each other. I share my coaching philosophy and training, and you share your story and goals. We establish confidentiality and respect so you feel safe to be honest. This foundation is crucial; without trust, transformation stalls.

2. Clarifying Vision

Next we articulate what freedom and success look like for you. This might involve identifying your calling, setting career milestones, restoring a relationship or growing spiritually. We uncover your strengths, passions and core values. Having a clear vision gives direction and fuels motivation.

3. Naming Obstacles and Lies

We examine beliefs and behaviors that keep you stuck fear of failure, people‑pleasing, perfectionism, anger, comparison. We trace where these ideas come from and evaluate their impact. Then we replace lies with truth and develop healthier patterns.

4. Crafting a Plan

With clarity about your vision and obstacles, we design a plan with measurable goals. You might set a fitness target, commit to a date night, create a budget or start a morning routine of prayer and journaling. Each step moves you closer to your desired outcome.

5. Accountability and Adjustment

Regular sessions provide accountability. We review progress, celebrate wins and troubleshoot challenges. If a plan isn’t working, we adjust. Accountability isn’t about guilt; it’s about support. Knowing someone is cheering you on makes it easier to keep going.

6. Celebrating Growth and Sustaining Change

When milestones are reached, we celebrate! Perhaps you got the job, repaired a relationship or rediscovered joy. But coaching also equips you to sustain change long after sessions end. You learn skills to manage stress, communicate effectively and nurture your relationship with God so you can continue thriving.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens during a coaching session?

Sessions usually last 50–60 minutes. We often begin with prayer (if you’re comfortable), review progress since our last meeting, discuss current challenges and identify next steps. You’ll leave with practical assignments or reflections tailored to your goals.

How long will I need coaching?

The timeline depends on your goals. Some people find clarity in a few sessions; others commit to several months for deeper transformation. We’ll determine the right length together. Coaching is about forward movement, so once you’ve achieved your goals or built tools to continue alone, you may choose to finish.

How much does coaching cost?

Coaching fees vary widely. At WalkerJames.Life we operate on a donation model. We suggest a rate that reflects the value of the service but offer a sliding scale to ensure finances aren’t a barrier. If you’re able to give more, it helps subsidise sessions for those with limited means.

Can I work with you if I’m not Christian?

Yes. While my approach is rooted in faith, I welcome anyone seeking growth. We tailor the process to your beliefs and comfort level. You won’t be pressured into religious practices. Many clients who aren’t sure what they believe appreciate the spiritual perspective coaching offers.

Do I need to stop seeing my therapist if I start coaching?

No. Coaching and therapy serve different purposes. If you’re dealing with depression, trauma, addiction or other mental health issues, continue therapy. Coaching can complement therapy by helping you set goals and implement strategies in your daily life.
